The Department of Physics and the Centre for Theoretical and Computational Physics invite you to the following Colloquium:
Title: Quantum Entanglement Between Gravitating Particles
Speaker: Professor Tomasz Paterek (Xiamen University Malaysia)
Date: Monday October 21st 2024, 2:00 pm
Location: DKF, Department of Physics
Abstract:
We will review experiments where gravity plays a role in the dynamics of quantum particles to argue that at present there is no experimental evidence of quantum features of gravity. We will discuss an idea based on entangling two quantum masses to change this state of affairs. We will give experimental conditions to observe such an effect and will discuss its consequences on the nature of gravitational coupling.
About the Speaker:
Prof. Dr. Tomasz Paterek was born and educated in Poland, obtaining his PhD with distinction from the University of Gdansk in 2007 (Supervisor: Marek Zukowski — laureate of the so-called Polish Nobel). He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore and the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna (group of Anton Zeilinger - Nobel laureate). He held positions at the Nanyang Technological University and the University of Gdansk, and since 2022 his primary working place is Xiamen University Malaysia. His papers concern the foundations of quantum physics, information theory, quantum computing, and (quantum) biology.
Thank you.
